What is a metaphor?

a figure of speech in which a word or phrase is applied to an object or action to which it is not literally applicable.

Copy out the metaphor from the poem

When  your lawn is an endless silver sea

List some of the adjectives used:

• Bright
• Night
• World
• Mystery

Think about being outside at night time.  Write another metaphor about  the moon, clouds, wind, cold…

• When I was sleeping at night I was talking with  cold and it was  sitting next to me.
• At night I was talking with the shining moon.
• When I was flying I was sleeping on the clouds
• On Sunday I was playing with the  wind
